🏪 Shop & Office Opening Pooja · व्यापार वृद्धि पूजन
Also called Vyapar Vridhi Puja · Dukan Muhurat · Office inauguration pooja · दुकान उद्घाटन पूजा
The opening pooja for a shop, office, clinic or factory is to a business what Griha Pravesh is to a home: the rite performed before the premises are used, asking that the work done there prosper and be free of obstruction. Ganesha is worshipped for a clear beginning and Lakshmi for growth, and the first transaction of the business is made only after the puja is complete.

When an opening pooja is performed
Before the first day of trade, on a muhurat the pandit fixes from the owner's birth details. Where a business has several partners, tell us whose name the sankalp should be taken in, or that it should name them all.
The same puja is held when a business moves to new premises, opens a branch, or wants a fresh start after a difficult period, and many traders repeat a shorter form each Diwali with their new account books.
What happens during a shop or office opening pooja
The pandit begins at the entrance with the worship of the doorway — a toran of mango leaves is hung and a swastik drawn — and then performs Ganesh puja, sankalp and kalash sthapana inside. Lakshmi is worshipped with Ganesha, and Kuber and the navagraha are invoked.
The tools of the trade are then blessed: the account books or the computer the accounts are kept on, the cash box, the weighing scale, the machines. A havan follows where the premises allow one. After purnahuti and aarti the owner cuts the ribbon or lights the lamp, and the first sale or entry is made.
Arranging a pooja in commercial premises
Check with the building's management whether a fire is permitted indoors. Where it is not, the pandit performs the puja without the havan, or with a small one at the entrance — tell us in advance so he comes prepared for the right form.
You will need images of Ganesha and Lakshmi, a kalash, coconut, mango leaves for the toran, flowers, sweets for the guests and staff, and the havan samagri on the pandit's list. Plan for the puja to finish before invited guests arrive for the inauguration.
Shop & Office Opening Pooja · व्यापार वृद्धि पूजन — common questions
How long does a shop or office opening pooja take?
About two and a half hours with the havan; less without it.
Can a havan be done inside an office?
Only if the building allows a fire indoors. Ask the management first. If it is not permitted, the puja is performed without the havan or with a small one at the entrance.
Whose name is the sankalp taken in for a partnership or company?
The owner's, or all the partners'. For a company it is taken in the name of the directors present. Tell us when you book so the sankalp is worded correctly.
