🚗 Vahan Puja · वाहन पूजा
Also called Vehicle Puja · New car pooja · Gaadi Puja · गाड़ी पूजा
Vahan Puja is the blessing of a new vehicle before it is put to regular use. A car, a motorcycle or a commercial vehicle is something a family trusts with its safety every day, and the puja asks for exactly that — protection on the road for the vehicle and for everyone who travels in it. It is short, it is held beside the vehicle itself, and it is among the most commonly booked household rituals.

When Vahan Puja is performed
On the day of delivery or soon after, before the vehicle's first proper journey. Families who choose the purchase date for its auspiciousness often take delivery on Dhanteras, Dussehra, Akshaya Tritiya or during Navratri, and hold the puja the same day.
It is also performed again each year on Dussehra or Vishwakarma Puja by families and businesses that worship their tools and vehicles on those days.
What happens during Vahan Puja
The vehicle is washed and parked facing east or north where that is practical. The pandit performs a Ganesh puja and takes the sankalp in the owner's name, then sprinkles Gangajal over the vehicle and draws a swastik in kumkum on the bonnet or the front. A garland is placed, a sacred thread is tied, and incense and a lamp are offered.
A coconut is broken in front of the vehicle, and by widespread custom lemons are placed under the wheels and driven over as it moves forward for the first time. The owner then takes it on a short first drive — to a nearby temple, in many families.
Arranging a Vahan Puja at home or at the showroom
You will need a coconut, four lemons, kumkum and haldi, a flower garland, incense, a lamp, sweets and a little Gangajal. The pandit sends the list and can perform the puja at your home, in your society's parking, or at the showroom on delivery — tell us where when you book.
Have the vehicle's papers and keys with you; they are placed before the deity during the puja.
