Dussehra (Vijayadashami)

महत्व · Significance

Dussehra, or Vijayadashami, falls on the tenth day after Navratri begins. It marks Shri Ram's victory over Ravana and, in the tradition of the Goddess, Maa Durga's victory over Mahishasura.

Ramlila performances end on this day with the burning of effigies of Ravana. Shami and Aparajita puja are traditional, and the day is widely regarded as a good one on which to begin new work.
