🔥 Gayatri Havan · गायत्री हवन
Also called Gayatri Yagya · Gayatri Mantra Havan · गायत्री यज्ञ
The Gayatri Havan is a fire ritual in which the offerings are made on the Gayatri mantra — the verse from the Rigveda, revealed to the sage Vishvamitra, that asks the divine light of Savitr to illumine the mind. It is among the most widely known of all mantras, and a havan built on it is the simplest and most universal of the yagyas: a family seated around the fire, offering together for the good of everyone in the house.

When a Gayatri Havan is performed
It is held to mark a beginning — a new home, a new year, a birthday, the start of a course of study — and to purify a house, whether on moving in or after a period of illness or bereavement. Many families hold one once a year as a matter of course.
Gayatri Jayanti, Purnima and Sundays are favoured days, but the havan may be held on any day, and the morning is preferred.
What happens during the Gayatri Havan
The pandit begins with Ganesh puja, sankalp and kalash sthapana, and the invocation of Gayatri Devi. The fire is lit in the havan kund and established with its opening offerings.
The ahutis follow. The Gayatri mantra is recited, and on each swaha those seated offer ghee and samagri into the fire — commonly 108 times, or a larger count the family has chosen. Everyone present can take part in the offering, which is why the rite suits a whole family. It closes with purnahuti, in which a coconut is offered, shanti path, aarti and prasad.
Arranging a Gayatri Havan at home
You will need a havan kund, ghee, havan samagri, dry mango-wood samidha, camphor, a kalash, coconut, flowers and fruit. The pandit sends the list and can bring the kund.
Choose a room with windows that open, and move anything that marks easily away from the fire. In a flat, check your society's rules on an open flame first. Those with breathing difficulty can sit further back and offer through another family member.
