About Kedarnath
Kedarnath is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Bhagwan Shiv and one of the four dhams of the Chota Char Dham yatra in Uttarakhand. The temple stands at about 3,583 metres in the Garhwal Himalaya, near the source of the Mandakini river, and is the first of the Panch Kedar.
The temple is open for roughly six months of the year. The kapat open around Akshaya Tritiya in April or May and close on Bhai Dooj, after Diwali. Through the winter the deity is worshipped at the Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath.
