Gosaikunda is a high Himalayan lake in the Rasuwa district of Nepal, inside Langtang National Park, at about 4,380 metres. It is sacred to Bhagwan Shiv: tradition says the lake was formed when he struck the mountain with his trishul to draw water after swallowing the poison of the Samudra Manthan.
Thousands of pilgrims walk up to bathe here at Janai Purnima, the full moon of Shravan.
