About Brihadeeswarar

The Brihadeeswarar temple in Thanjavur, also called the Big Temple or Peruvudaiyar Kovil, is dedicated to Bhagwan Shiv. It was built by the Chola king Rajaraja I and completed around 1010 CE.

Its granite vimana rises about 66 metres above the sanctum and is among the tallest in India. The temple is part of the Great Living Chola Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A virtual darshan is a way to see and remember the temple, not a substitute for the yatra or for worship there. AaradhyaHub is not affiliated with the temple or its committee. For a pooja performed with full vidhi, book a verified pandit.
