महत्व · Significance
Janmashtami celebrates the birth of Shri Krishna at midnight on the eighth day of the dark half of Bhadrapad. Devotees fast through the day, decorate a cradle for Bal Gopal, and break the fast after the midnight birth is celebrated.
Dahi Handi is held the next day, and Mathura and Vrindavan are the centres of the celebration.
