महत्व · Significance
Durga Ashtami, also called Maha Ashtami, is the eighth day of Navratri and is given to Maa Mahagauri. It is one of the two days on which kanya pujan is traditionally performed, when young girls are honoured as forms of the Goddess and offered a meal.
In some years the Ashtami and Navami tithis fall on the same civil day, and both are then observed together.
