Sharad Navratri

महत्व · Significance

Sharad Navratri is nine nights of worship of Maa Durga in her nine forms, beginning on the first day of the bright half of Ashwin. It opens with Ghatasthapana, the installing of the kalash, and closes on Maha Navami; the day after is Dussehra.

Many keep a fast through the nine days, light an akhand jyoti, and read the Durga Saptashati. Ashtami and Navami are the days on which kanya pujan is traditionally performed.
